Here’s a rundown of key dates, voter ID requirements, and helpful links to make your voting experience as smooth as possible.
Important Dates:
- Voter Registration Deadline:
- By Mail or Online: The deadline is October 11th, unless you one-stop vote during Early Voting. Make sure to register or update your registration in time!
- In Person: You can register in person during early voting if you miss the mail or online deadline.
- Early Voting Period:
- Early voting begins on October 17 and ends on November 2. During early voting you can register and vote the same day at any polling location in your county. This is a great opportunity to vote at your convenience and avoid Election Day lines.
- Election Day:
- The general election will take place on November 5, 2024. Polls will be open from 6:30 AM to 7:30 PM, and you can only vote at your designated polling place.
Voter ID Requirements:
For the first time in recent years, North Carolina voters will be required to show an acceptable photo ID to vote. Acceptable forms of ID include:
- North Carolina driver’s license or non-driver ID
- U.S. passport
- Military or veteran ID
- Tribal ID
- NC Student ID (check to make sure your ID is approved)
- NC Government Employee ID
- Free Voter ID from County Board of Elections
If you don’t have a valid ID, don’t worry! You can obtain a free voter ID from your county board of elections. For more information on obtaining an ID, visit the NC State Board of Elections website. If you get to the polls and you don’t have an ID, you can fill out a Photo ID Exemption Form.
