One Like, One Ribbon: ADAP Awareness Facebook Campaign
The AIDS Drug Assistance Program (ADAP) provides life-saving medications for qualified low-income people living with HIV/AIDS. And right now, over 350+ people are on North Carolina's ADAP waitlist.
We're running a social media campaign on Facebook this week to draw attention to value of the ADAP program and the need for improved funding to ensure that all people living with HIV/AIDS have early, uninterrupted access to the medications that keep them healthy and dramatically reduce new infection rates.
Like us on Facebook, and we'll tie a red ribbon for ADAP awareness. Our goal: 350+ red ribbons tied by Saturday, Sept. 24th. We'll be handing out red ribbons this weekend at the NC Pride Festival in Durham as we circulate petition postcards asking Congress for more federal funding for ADAP. Help us reach our goal by liking us now!
We've long known that early, uninterrupted treatment is vital for reducing viral loads, preserving health, and preventing costly hospitalizations. And this spring, we learned that early, uninterrupted treatment offers tremendous benefits in preventing new cases of HIV: a multinational study led by UNC researchers revealed that early antiretroviral treatment lowered the risk of transmission by an astonishing 96 percent. This scientific research drives home the value of treatment made available by ADAP as part of a comprehensive strategy for the prevention of new HIV cases in our state, where the new infection rate is 41 percent higher than the national average.
